When you visit Buffalo Bill Cody's Country, be prepared to stay awhile. You can fly in and out of Cody Wyoming direct and rent a car if you choose to explore around the area, but there is enough in town to keep you busy for at least a week. We have some of the most scenic mountain drives in North America just outside the city limits; the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway, the Beartooth Mountains Drive, a little further east of us the Big Horn Mountains and our own piece of heaven in the Big Horn Recreational Area with truly wild mustangs and some of the greatest fishing in the world. In town, Cody is full of activities all summer long, the nightly Cody Night rodeo, Dan Miller's Cowboy Music Revue, Buffalo Bill Historical Center which houses five world class museums, there is a Trolley tour, gunfights, river rafting, trails to walk, bike or horseback ride, shopping, art galleries, antique stores, clothing stores, hat & boot shops, saddle and tack shops, outfitting places, too much to list. Just give us a chance to show you what the West is all about. Everything in town is walking distance or accessible by public transportation. We generally have 300 days of sunshine every year, so weather is usually very nice. It does drop in the evening so bring a light jacket and watch out for the sun as we are at 5000 feet and closer than you may be used to being so bring good sunglasses and a hat. Remember, if you are planning to do a lot of outdoor activities, prepare! Prepare! Prepare! If you live at a lower altitude you should start walking at least two miles a day or more until you can do so without breathing hard. Drink lots of water before and during your visit. We are high plains desert and you lose most of your water by evaporation. You may not seem to be sweating, but you are and sweat evaporates very quickly here. Dehydration can make you tired, headachy and generally not feel well. Remember to drink lots of water, caffeine and alcoholic drinks dehydrate you further so drink more water to re-hydrate. To really enjoy your trip outdoors, prepare. If you are planning to just sit back and relax while you are here, your pace is set only by your desire. The sun does rise early here and set late, so your days will be long. Chambers of Commerce are full of information as are the local and state Tourism Boards. Enjoy Cody Country, Buffalo Bill’s own.
