Located on Wisconsin's famous Door Peninsula, the village of Fish Creek is tucked between the bluff created by the Niagara Escarpment and the bay of Green Bay. Founded by fishermen in the nineteenth century, the village soon became a popular summer destination for tourists from Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Louis, who were attracted by the cooler temperatures, miles of coastline and natural beauty. Several local resort hotels, built in the 1890's, have been painstakingly restored and maintained and are now Fish Creek Bed and Breakfast Inns. A walk around-village, with activities and special events year round, the village is the home of many fine restaurants, including several that are operated as part of Fish Creek Bed and Breakfast Inns. Peninsula State Park, the crown jewel of Wisconsin parks, begins in Fish Creek and features miles of shoreline, pristine beaches, hiking and biking trails and a spectacular 18-hole golf course. Artists have always been attracted to Fish Creek, and today's guests are treated to an array of studios and galleries as well as upscale shops and boutiques that have taken over some of the town's original homes. The performing arts are also represented well in Fish Creek. The Peninsula Players, the oldest professional summer stock theater in the country, has recently moved into a beautiful new theater, built just outside of town on the shores of Green Bay. American Folklore Theater, located in Peninsula State Park, produces original musical theater beneath the stars on its new open air stage, built among a stand of century old pines. And Fish Creek is also the home of a 750-seat auditorium which brings in national touring musical and dance performances. With all it has to offer, Fish Creek, along with its neighboring village of Ephraim, was selected as the Midwest's number 1 small town to visit by Midwest Living Magazine (June, 2007).
