The nordic trail system that begins from your door step is one of the largest trail systems in the nation with over 200 km of groomed trails. The local mountains of the North Cascades offer some of the best backcountry skiing in the lower 48. A long kept secret you can expect to have these runs to yourself. With the excellent snow and cold clear days nothing beats the skiing in Mazama. Spring brings wildflowers, wildlife viewing, mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, fly fishing, rafting, trail running and easy access to spring skiing. On a typical hike you can expect see many different types of wild flowers, birds and wildlife. In the summer the focus moves to the high country with alpine flowers, hikes in the North Cascades National Park and Pasayten Wilderness, climbing on world famous Liberty Bell, Silver Star Glacier and a drive to Harts Pass Road and Slate Peak, the highest road in the state of Washington. Many classic hikes begin at the end of this road and take you back into time as you make your way into some of the large old mines that operated back in the 1940’s. Or enjoy a lazy summer day along the Methow River where hiking, birding, biking, trail running and horse trails offer a quiet retreat. In August enjoy the sounds of classical music at the foot of the spectacular Goat Wall during the Methow Music Festival. Fall, with its vibrant colors and cooler temperatures, is a great time to get in a last hike or ride before the snow once again blankets the mountains or just enjoy the beauty of the area.
