Waterbury VT is a village of some 4,000 residents and a good central location for exploring north central Vermont, Montreal (2.5 hours), Adirondack Park (1 hour), and northern New Hampshire. Burlington and Lake Champlain are 40 minutes north west. The state capital of Montpelier is 15 minutes south. The world class resort village of Stowe is 15 minutes north. Interstate 89 and Route 100, the two main roads in central Vermont, intersect only in Waterbury. There are a half dozen quality restaurants in Watrebury and a top quality brewpub called The Alchemist. Within a 30 minute drive of Waterbury are about 100 quality restaurants. For fishing enthusiasts, the Winooski River runds through Waterbury and there are many other rivers and tributaries that provide top quality, uncrowded fishing especially for three types of trout: brown, rainbow, and brooktrout. There are two main outfitters who rent canoes and kayaks, as well as providing guided trips. The Waterbury Reservoir is a large lake for canoeing, kayaking, boating, fishing. Sailboat rental is available in Burlington. Golf is available at about a dozen courses within a short drive. During the winter, there are four ski resorts within a 20 minute drive: Stowe, Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, and Bolton Valley. Also, there are eight cross country ski areas, thousands of miles of groomed snowmobile trails, snowmobile rentals, snowshoe rentals and guided trips into the forests. Vermont's most popular attraction is Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory in Watebury where tours are given 363 days a year (closed Christmas and New Years). A few miles up Route 100 are Cabot Cheese Store, Vermont Teddy Bear store, Pajamagram outlet, Danforth Pewter, and Cold Hollow Cider Mill. There are two glass blowing studios, one on Route 100 in Waterbury and the other in the town of Moscow, just a few minutes up Route 100 on the way to Stowe from Waterbury.
