Bed and Breakfast Inn Description

In 1934 Mathias and Frances Lorenz bought a farmhouse on the Green River in Sandgate, and started raising chickens. They welcomed their friends who came from the city to visit. The farm became the Evergreen Inn when the farmhouse was enlarged, and six tiny evergreens were planted in front. The Lorenz's daughter, Matilda, and her husband, Kenny eventually began running the Southern Vermont Bed and Breakfast. Their seasonal Inn was a haven for many city people seeking a country retreat and for local artists who felt inspired by the natural beauty of the area. Many artists would place their easel on the grounds and create beautiful landscapes, some of which still hang in the Inn today.
