A Bed & Breakfast in the Wonderful State of Vermont
Bed and Breakfast Inn Description
The Ranney-Crawford House, a Putney, Vermont bed and breakfast, is a nearly two centuries old brick Federal manor house built by Elijah Ranney and his wife Lydia Crawford Ranney on land purchased in 1786 from James Crawford to replace the wooden farm house that first stood on the property. Elijah, who was deacon of the nearby Westminster West Congregational Church where he and is wife are buried, became wealthy by shipping farm produce down the Connecticut River to Connecticut. This allowed them the means to construct their elegant home with Palladian windows, Rumford fireplaces, fine woodwork and wainscotting. Although lovingly restored, it retains much of its early 19th century charm and elegance. Situated amidst flowering gardens and lawns, as well as some of the original fields first farmed by the Ranneys, on the scenic Westminster West Road; it is only a short drive to the village of Putney, the Putney School, Landmark College and Vermont Academy.Bed and Breakfast Inn Inn Descriptors: Putney VT, VT resorts inn, Vermont bed inn, Vermont lodging inn, suite inn, Putney inn house, Putney resorts inn, Putney suites lodging, suites lodging,
