Wimberley, Texas was established in 1848. One of the original settlers of Wimberley, William C. Winters, fought alongside his two brothers at San Jacinto in the battle that won Texas independence from Mexico. During the fight, Winters was one of only a few Texans severely wounded. His mill in Wimberley helped the village prosper.
Today this picturesque village is a resort and retirement area. Visitors are entranced by cool, shady pools under towering cypress trees, frothy cascades on the Blanco River and sparkling Cypress Creek, green meadows and majestic hills. This Texas Hill country village is 40 miles southwest of Austin, the capital of Texas, and 60 miles northesast of historic San Antonio.
