Hill City, centered in the Black Hills of South Dakota, is a nostalgic reminder of the Gold Rush Days of the late 1800’s, when it was first settled. Now a family-oriented tourist hub, Hill City is also a year-round village, providing a getaway for locals in the surrounding areas. Mickelson Trail, rails to trails, heading in either of two pine-scented directions out of town. Paralleling Old Hill City Road and connecting Keystone with Hill City, the 1880 Train is a must for buffs of the old west railroad and mining days. Along that vein, Wades Gold Mill is just up Deerfield Road. Trail rides, mountain lakes, Iron Mountain Road, Needles Highway, Harney Peak, Cathedral Spires, Crazy Horse Monument, Black Hills Playhouse, Custer State Park, caves, and more, all are easily reached from Hill City, the Heart of the Hills.
