The Town of North Smithfield is located at the northern border of Rhode Island, so right fully it has been called the gateway to northern Rhode Island. Located on I-295 and near major state highways -- State Route 146, 116, 7, US 44 -- between Providence and Worcestor, with easy access to Providence down town, the new T.F. Green Airport and only an hour from Boston, Smithfield is a great place to live, work, or explore.
Incorporated in 1871, the town was first called Slater after English industrialist John Slatersixteen days later that name changed to North Smithfield. Early settlers were farmers and their lives centered on the farm, but because of the town's proximity to water it was inevitable that growth would come as textile mills were established to make use of the power of the water. You will see few textile mill building along blackstone river. Blackstone valley is very rich in history but Modern development of office and industrial parks, fidelity, Bryant University, Lincoln Greyhound park has opened new avenues in the town.
Addieville East Farm is a unique shooting range that provide variety of activity in shooting, hunting and fishing. It also offeres sporting clay disc shooting. It also has a gun shop colection of antique guns from the world. The farm spread over 180 acres and in a small forest. It's hidden gem of blackstone valley which needs to be explored by sportsmans of the area.
