General Robert E Lee and his men took the route through Fayetteville on what is called Lincoln Heritage Highway, Rt 30, and 15 miles on foot into Gettysburg. Fayetteville has two Bed & Breakfast's that offer lodging for guests visiting Gettysburg. It is off Interstate 81, a main exit for Gettysburg that begins the Pennsylvania Tourist Triangle for Gettysburg Battlefields, Lancaster known for it’s Amish community, and Hershey Amusement Park and chocolate factory. One Fayetteville Bed & Breakfast is the fully restored Angelic Inn, rich in civil war and railroad history. Part of the mansion is pre civil war and part is turn of the century. Railroad baron, Moorhead Kennedy, added onto the original house at the turn of the century to make it the 17,000 sq. ft. structure it is today. It sits on a limestone hilltop with 6 1/2 acres and a 50' drop off the back to the trout stream and forest. It should soon be on the historical register. The other Fayetteville Bed & Breakfast is at Penn National. The original farmhouse is a restored Bed & Breakfast and the newly built lodging is for its golf packages. Penn National offers two championship golf courses. This is where presidents play golf while staying at Camp David. It also has a beautiful residential and retirement community as part of the complex. In fact, this has become quite the retirement area because of good weather, good medical facilities and no tax on retirement income. Fayetteville has a post office, antique malls, and the large Chambersburg Mall with major stores and a Burlington Coat Factory going in. Also close to the Carlisle Car Shows. Caledonia State Park and the Appalachian Trail go through Fayetteville and attract many visitors each year. The location is great. You can stay in one place and visit so many others without packing and unpacking and wasting valuable time. The scenery and weather are great. Fall foliage is just beautiful and a busy time of year.
