Mt. Hood Hamlet B&B is in the unincorporated Community (Hamlet) of Mt. Hood, Oregon on OR-35, 15 miles south of Hood River. This hamlet had the first Post Office in the "Upper Hood River Valley" area; a group of mailboxes in a local home in 1884. The post office remained in the community in more updated facilities, until being merged with Parkdale, two miles away, in 1975. The name Mt. Hood, Oregon 97041 is the retained postmark of the combination! Before Mt. Hood Hamlet B&B came into being, a general store, which included the post office, gas station and elementary school also served the community, the latter closing as a school and becoming the Mt. Hood Community Center. A volunteer fire station is now adjacent to the community center. The property upon which Mt. Hood Hamlet Bed & Breakfast was constructed was purchased in 1948 by the parents of the current owners, Diane and Paul Romans. Paul grew up here in a small house which was put together during WW II, and was lacking in structural integrity. This old house was replaced on the same site by construction of the new B&B in 1996, and has operated since fall 1996. Mt. Hood Community has changed very little over the years, being a sleepy little hamlet in a very beautiful setting, just 13 miles from the top of Mt. Hood. The Portland Rose Festival Association has sanctioned the annual Hood River Classic, a Hunter-Jumper Horse event every June which occurs about a mile north of the hamlet. Draper's nearby Fruit Stand still operates 24/7 - Help yourself and be honest!
