Jacksonville, Oregon, is an old mining town in Southern Oregon, approximately 30 miles north of the California Border. Gold was discovered here in 1851 and the town grew up around the mining claims. The buildings in Jacksonville, Oregon, are the original ones from the 1850's and over 86 are restored and on the National Registry - several are now Historic Bed and Breakfast Inns.
Jacksonville is also one of just eight American towns awarded the National Landmark Town designation.
During the summer months the Bed and Breakfasts, Restaurants, and shops are filled when tourists come to town to attend the acclaimed Britt Music Festival located in a beautiful outdoor setting and now in its 44th year. Concert goers enjoy all types of top entertainment from classical to rock, dance and comedy.
The town is filled with history and has museums, trails, and historic tours. In the fall, the Jacksonville Boosters Club presents their Cemetery tour complete with actors portrying Jacksonville pioneers. The atmosphere of the "Jacksonville of old" is told thru the lives and experiences of these Pioneers. In December Victorian Christmas is celebrated all month. The town is decorated with green garlands and red bows. Carolers sing, chestnuts are roasted, and even the "town crier" makes an appearance.
