Peggy's Bed and Breakfast is located in the NE corner of the State of Ohio, Saybrook Township, Ashtabula County, Ohio.
Ashtabula County is the largest of Ohio's 88 counties. The nearest incorporated area is the City of Ashtabula, with a population of about 20,000. Ashtabula city is about five miles from Peggy's Bed and Breakfast.
The City of Ashtabula is a former industrial town that is now a bedroom community serving NE Ohio and NW Pennsylvania. Ashtabula County itself is mostly rural with agriculture being the leading industry.
A key feature of the Ashtabula County area is a unique micro climate created by Lake Erie and a geological ridge to the south of the lake. These two features combine to form a micro climate that extends the growing season for grapes. As a result, many wineries - currently about 20 - call Ashtabula County home. Peggy's Bed and Breakfast is positioned within a short drive of most every winery.
In addition, Ashtabula is home to sixteen covered bridges encompassing a wide-range of architectural styles. Peggy's Bed and Breakfast offers maps that provide driving tour directions so that visitors can easily find each covered bridge.
Not enough? Lake Erie, along Ashtabula County's northern border, offers some of the best sport fishing in the United States, with walley and perch being the most prized catches. Fishing charters are available. Lake Erie also offers summertime fun for the entire family on our public beaches.
The Ashtabula area is also home to the Grand River, designated in 1974 by the State of Ohio as the county's first Wild and Scenic River. Local canoe liveries provide canoe rental, drop-off, and retrieval services for an enjoyable day trip down the river.
Conneaut Creek is the county's second state designated Wild and Scenic River, and it is known for its premier steelhead trout fishing. The Creek and the Grand are also home to bass, walleye, northern pike, and pan fish species.
In recent years, local efforts converted an abandoned rail line into a bike and hike trail that extends from one end of the county to the other. Bicycling enthusiasts enjoy the many, many miles of travel offered by the trail. During our beautiful winters, the trail is open to snowmobiles. Peggy's Bed and Breakfast also offers a sled hill for youngsters.
It is easy to see why Ashtabula is quickly becoming Ohio's featured tourist destination. Peggy's, with her famous gourmet breakfast, and the Ashtabula area truly do offer something for everyone.
