Shorecrest is conveniently placed just 5 minutes from two of the most interesting villages on the North Fork of Long Island. Greenport village, to the East has been a working seaport since the 18th Century and many tall ships as well as working fishing boats and all sizes and shapes of smaller craft dock there. Greenport has attracted many fine chefs and 5 star restaurants as well as a delicious variety of more casual eateries serving local oysters, fish, fresh farm produce and Long Island wines. Strolling Greenport’s sidewalks, you’ll find many unique shops, galleries, and museums, as well as a restored Art Deco movie theater, and an antique carrousel.
Southold village, due south of Shorecrest, has maintained it’s historic character and history. Southold is home to many handsome period houses and the Southold museum, is housed in one of them. Visitors can visit the Custer Institute Indian museum and observatory, perfectly located for star gazing in this last remaining rural part of Long Island where the night skies are still very dark.
Both Southold and Greenport are just over 2 hours form New York City and can be reached by train, express bus service or car and less than 3 hours from Boston and the East coast using the Connecticut Cross Island Ferry connection from New London to Orient Point..
