Phelps, NY is situated just north of Seneca Lake in the heart of the Finger Lakes District of Western New York State. Sometimes called “The Other New York,” the western part of the state is very different from the area surrounding New York City. A parade, a midway with rides, craft fair and the traditional cabbage head decorating contest all lead to the Sauerkraut cook-off on Sunday. Recognized as one of the great local festivals in America, the Phelps Sauerkraut Festival was even featured in 2004 on Food Network's program, All American Festivals. Phelps is a wonderful place from which to base your visit to the Finger Lakes. In particular you will want to stay in one of the historic Phelps, bed and breakfast inns.
