The house was built in 1896 and was the largest home in Allegany, six gas fireplaces and indoor plumbing made it one of the grandest in the area. It left the family after the depression in 1934. Joe Gallets [great-great uncle of innkeeper, Gary Boser] died in 1928 and the family of 10 was grown, so he left money to his favorite charities not knowing that the depression was coming. The family had to sell the home in 1934. The local banker bought the working dairy farm and orchard and continued to farm providing milk , butter, eggs to local people, markets and St. Bonaventure University. In 1950 to 1968 the Franciscan Friers bought the house and lived here while attending classes at St Bonaventure University. They built the grotto/fountain in the back yard and put a chapel on the third floor. The vestment cabinets are still there. A museum is now located on the third floor, you are welcome to browse through the many items of the past and step back in time. The Allegany Gallets House Bed & Breakfast opened its doors for the first time in 1998. The house was condemned in 1995 and sat empty for 3 years and was going to be torn down. Joan & Gary Boser along with their daughter Cheri Stady and husband Lanie saved this old house and restored it back to its former beauty so all can enjoy it.
