Newton, New Jersey is the county seat of Sussex County and lies at the heart of New Jersey's Skylands. One can find the state fairgrounds hosting numerous events, including several regional horse shows and equestrian events. Also, in nearby Augusta is the stadium of the New Jersey Skyhawks Baseball Team. They play a regular schedule of class AA Baseball. Within 10 miles one can find more than 10 golf courses.

Zoe’s and André’s offer French cuisine, The Black Forest offers German, and Il Porto, Casa Bellisima, Bella Italia and Tuscany Bistro all offer great Italian food. The Mohawk House and Bula’s offer a wide array of classic meals. For a pleasant local pub, try either Max’s Station House or Sheridan’s Lodge. Lafayette Village Shopping Mall holds numerous outlet stores. Andover Borough is home to multiple antique shops, great for browsing. Many more antique shops are in the area, just follow Route 206 north. You may then come upon Westfall Winery, who offer tasting (and purchase) of some excellent local wines--both red and white.
Hiking, boating, rafting and fishing are all available in the state parks of Sussex County. In the winter one can visit Mountain Creek Ski Resort. For more excitement, try a bi plane ride or flight lesson from Aeroflex Airport. The Lakota Wolf Preserve is home to a collection of wolves living free. Space Farms Zoo and Museum are great for a family outing.
