The Sandhill Cranes
Every spring, the Platte River Valley is filled with visitors, both the human & the bird varieties. Almost 500,000 sandhill cranes, or 90 percent of the world's population of the birds, migrate through the region, & people from all over the world come to view the spectacular animals.

The Great Platte River Road Archway Monument: The Great Platte River Road Archway Monument is a bridge that will transport you back in time—to an era when covered wagons, hand-pulled carts, & trains first criss-crossed the prairies. The Great Platte River Road Archway Monument is an interactive adventure that pays tribute to the pioneers who passed through this region of Nebraska on their way West. These entrepreneurs were shaped by what they saw & experienced, & they have given America a heritage that is a living spirit that molds our nation’s character today.

The staff, dressed in authentic clothing of the period, will welcome you with smiles & a warm “howdy” when you come to visit.
