The Huron River runs through Ypsilanti, Michigan, the second oldest city in Michigan with over 800 homes in the Historic District.Ypsilanti is pronounced ip-sa-lan-ti, or as local refer to it...Ypsi. Ypsilanti's Parish House Inn is within walking distance of all the historical sites and shopping areas. The city really has two downtown areas. The first is right on Michigan Avenue, US 12, which is a designated historic highway. There are restaurants, a coffee shop, a library in a restored post office and the business school of Eastern Michigan University. The other area is called "Historic depot Town" because is where the train stations are located and the businesses that built up around it. It is on Cross Street and is home to retaurants, quaint shops, the Automotive Heritage Museum and the Firehouse Museum. Just a mile away is the main campus of Eastern Michigan University. Connecting these two areas from north to south is Riverside Park, located right on the Huron River. In this park many festivals and events occur throughout the summer.Ypsilanti's Parish House Inn is only two blocks from the park which makes it a popular destination for event goers. Every Thursday evening from June through September, Depot Town hosts a "Cruise Night". Area hot rods display their restored cars and a DJ plays popular music from an earlier era. Downtown boasts the free summer outdoor Friday night concert series on Washington Street, which is just one block from Ypsilanti's Parish House Inn.
