South Haven, Michigan is a quaint, friendly resort town on the shore of Lake Michigan, just 2 quick driving hours from Chicago. South Haven is a world away from the big city though, with relaxing amusements, miles of white sand beach, great restaurants and world-class B&Bs, set to a small-town pace full of welcoming, smiling faces. Called The Blueberry Capital of the World, 2/3 of the world's blueberries are grown in the area. An annual August festival celebrates the blueberry with parades, craft fairs, music and lots of pie eating. South Haven boasts a variety of entertaining leisure activities, including local wineries, artist studios, farm markets, nurseries and greenhouses, shopping, dining, local theater and, of course, miles and miles of perfect sandy beach. With a bustling harbor, beautiful riverfront park and hometown downtown shops, South Haven is the most accessible and relaxing of all Michigan lakefront towns. Sail a sunset cruise on a Tall Ship, picnic in lovely parks, enjoy a starlit night. The whole of the town is walkable from where you park your car. There are at least 5 superior golf courses for the casual duffer to the serious player. Originating as a lumber and fruit port in the 1800s, South Haven was a famous kosher Jewish Resort for over 100 years. The resort featured some of the best entertainment of the day. The town's newly erected Historical Society museum, along with The Michigan Maritime Museum, is one of it's most popular attractions. Easy driving distance to all that SW Michigan has to offer, like the art communities of Saugatuck and Douglas, the museums and shows in Grand Rapids, ski areas.
