Wellfleet is a historic seaside village located 47 miles from the mainland of Massachusetts. Wellfleet is in the heart of the National Seashore as well as Wellfleet's Bed and Breakfast Inns. Wellfleet is known for it's many beautiful Ocean and Bay beaches as well as it's glacier made Kettle Ponds. The first transatlantic message was sent to England from Wellfleet's Marconi site on the Atlantic in 1903. Near this sight is the Atlantic White Cedar Swamp trail which allows visitors staying in Wellfleet's Bed and Breakfast Inns to walk through the National Seashore. The recreational activities include swimming, biking, hiking, boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, golf, and bird watching to name a few. The Cape Cod Bike Trail begins in South Wellfleet and continues through Eastham, Orleans and beyond. The town still retains the charm of old Cape Cod with it's quaint fishing village, town pier, pottery shops, art galleries, and Wellfleet's Bed and Breakfast Inns! It is also fortunate to have over 1100 acres of the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Audubon Sanctuary with a variety of programs, wildlife tours, bay beaches and hiking trails. Wellfleet may be known as the Gallery Town, but it's best known worldwide for it's Wellfleet Oysters!
