The town of Rockport, MA is a unique seaside village which is located on the tip of Cape Ann, just 1 hour North of Boston by car or TRAIN.
The town derived it's name from the granite quarrying business which made the town a thriving community in the 1800's. We have since become a tourist village known in particular for our art colony.
The town boasts several dozen art galleries throughout the village as well as the nationally recognized Rockport Art Association. There are also over 150 shops, a dozen seafood restaurants, a state park, and 7 public beaches to enjoy. There are also over 40 accommodations throughout the town, the majority of which tend to be small B&B's or INNS, each with a unique operation, but all stressing hospitable and comfortable lodgings.
Some of the draws to our town (and Cape Ann) are Whale-watching, Scuba Diving, swimming and sun-bathing, hiking, antiquing, and then of course: SHOPPING!
Rockport is also much more accessible to attractions and areas troughout the state than our more publicized Cape Cod, as we don't experience the heavy traffic and back-ups that Cape Cod traditionally has to contend with.
Boston is just over an hour away, while Salem is about 1/2 hour away, then both New Hampshire and Maine are about an hour away as well, so we urge travellers to use Rockport as their home-base and explore the rest of the area from here on Cape Ann either by car or by TRAIN.
We warmly invite you: When you Come to Massachusetts, stay in Rockport on Cape Ann!
