The historic seaside village of Chatham is located on the elbow of Cape Cod. Thirty seven miles from the Cape Cod Canal to the west and thirty two miles from Provincetown to the North, Chatham is about as far east in Massachusetts as you can go. Because of this, it is ideally sited to serve as a jumping off point to explore all of the Cape and Islands. Pristine Nantucket Sound Beaches to the south, breathtaking vistas of the Atlantic Barrier Systems to the east, and the serenity of the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge are all in Chatham. Visit the Chatham Fish Pier, and watch the catch of the day unloaded from the the vantage point of the unique observation deck twenty feet above the boats. There are approximately 4500 seals that live in Chatham's waters year round. Scheduled tours are available through licensed operators. If you're open to a little more adventure have one of the boats drop you off on Monomoy Island. This is a bit rustic, but a birder's paradise. The Islands has fresh water ponds, pleanty of fish and has no humans living there. It is an ideal location for migrating and nesting birds. Watch the coastal flats on the eastern side of North Monomoy for commercial shellfishermen. This activity has been going on for nearly 300 years all the way back to our Colonial period. Stroll the central Village of Chatham with it's quaint shops and delightful restaurants. Enjoy the free public band concerts each Friday night in the summer at Late Gould Park. The evening starts with kid favorites, moves on to rousing Sousa marches and ends with swing. The Chatham A's play in the the Cape Cod Baseball league. This, by invitation only amateur league, is comprised of top college prospects. Each year a dozen or so players sign contracts and begin their professional careers. One of the activities the fans seem to especially enjoy is trying to pick out the pro scouts in attendance. Played under the lights Cape Cod league Baseball is enjoyed by all ages. The Monomoy Theater is the summer home of Ohio University Players. The evening presentations are always a hot ticket. Like the baseball team, you will most likely see some of tomorrow's stars. Chatham...Cape Cod remembered.
