If you take a step back in time and walk downtown Main Street before the late 1800's and early 1900's you would find the same buildings dominating the city. After all these years the important elements of the city and county landscape still remain. Buildings built before we were born, reminiscent of days gone by. And yet they remain the basic building blocks of the city and its landscape. Buildings built before 1900 faithful to their heritage, standing proudly with new facades and new owners and fiercely guarding the artifacts of those who once played stickball in the streets of Cadiz. With a little imagination, you can almost hear the fiery speeches that must have flowed from the majestic second balcony of the courthouse on any hot 4th of July. In those days, "Second Monday" in Trigg County attracted people from all over the county. Entire families traveled to town; it was a special day. Buggies, wagons, horses, maybe even a Model "T" Ford pulled up along a sidewalk or yard. Considerable activity took place both inside and outside the courthouse. Friends visiting with friends setting on benches and hanging out windows. Day shoppers strolling along the two-block business district that was Main Street in the early 1900's. Now 100 years later, on any early Saturday morning you will find "day shoppers" strolling along the same two blocks of business district. Today Main Street is still attracting people from all over, the only difference today is they travel not only from all over the county, but also all over the world. Old friends and traditions revived and remembered - new friends made and never forgotten.
