The Brass Lantern Bed & Breakfast is located 1-1/2 miles east of Greenfield, Iowa, a bustling little town of 2100, with tree-lined streets, gift and antique shops, restaurants, a movie theater, and a gourmet coffee house. Founded in 1856, Greenfield is the county seat for Adair County and features a European style square. This beautifully restored "Rare Square" (all streets lead to the middle of the square) is home to Adair County's 100+-year-old Courthouse and to the magnificent , under-restoration 19th Centruy Opera House, both of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Two museums, the Iowa Aviation Museum and the Adair County Heritage Museum are located in Greenfield. Bed and Breakfast visitors to the Iowa Aviation Museum have an opportunity to experience flying machines from the first days of aviation, hear stories of early aviators' courageous flights and view an interesting display of related memorabilia. The museum is also home to the Iowa Aviation Hall of Fame. The Adair County Historical Museum is composed of a complex of buildings, located at the west edge of Greenfield and includes numerous collections in the main building, including a large amount of memorabilia from the movie, Cold Turkey, which was filmed in Greenfield in 1969. A "must see" for every Bed and Breakfast visitor to Greenfield is the world-famous "Freedom Rock." Located just a few miles north of Greenfield, it is an inspiration to anyone who feels a surge of pride when the American Flag is raised or the National Anthem plays for one of our Olympians on the medal stand. Every year, for the last ten years, a talented local artist, Ray (Bubba) Sorenson, II, has painted a Memorial Day tribute to our servicemen and servicewomen, both past and present, on a large granite boulder which stands next to Highway 25, just south of Interstate 80. Greenfield also offers Brass Lantern Bed and Breakfast guests the opportunity to enjoy three city parks, two with large lakes and excellent fishing, nature areas with walking trails, an antique auto museum, featuring a rare collection of Corvette's, a non-commercial airport, several excellent golf courses and the nearby prairie homestead of Vice President and agriculture pioneer, Henry A. Wallace.
