Jeffersonville, Indiana, is on the Ohio River directly across from Louisville, Kentucky. Known in the 19th century for the steamboats manufactured here, Jeffersonville is still a major inland boat manufacturer. The old days can still be seen at the Howard Steamboat Museum directly across from JeffBoat, now the major inland boat manufacturer. Jeffersonville was established in 1802 and was laid off according to a design said to have been devised by Thomas Jefferson, for whom the town was named.
Recent riverfront development with downtown retail make Jeffersonville a popular destination. Jeffersonville has several waterfront restaurants, restaurants located in the historic commercial district, offices, retail shops, and bed and breakfasts. Our Waterfront enhancements include the addition of recreation and public space at the beautiful Terrace Lawn incorporated with the historic Overlook, which incliudes our floating waterfront stage where outdoor plays, concerts and movies can be viewed throughout the warm seasons.
