Divide, Colorado is a small mountain town in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains 30 west of Colorado Springs. Divide was originally named Hayden Divide after the surveyor and cartographer that explored the area. Indians of the Ute Nation used to pass through region. The Utes were passing between their hunting and living grounds on what's become known as the Ute Trail. Settlers occupied the area next. Then gold was discovered in Cripple Creek and a railroad passed through Divide followed by thousands of new residents. A minister created a church holding Sunday services in a bar. The services moved to a community church in 1906 when the Little Chapel of the Hills was erected. The church is still there and still being used for worship services, funerals, weddings and other community spiritual needs. Vegetables were grown here for the residents and workers of Cripple Creek. Cattle ranches have replaced the vegatable fields and some of the ranches are still here. Many residential homes now occupy 1 to 35 acre sites.
