Ferndale, Ca., known as the Victorian Village of Ferndale and the home of The Victorian Inn, is an authentic late 1800's village that retains that distinct character to this day. Ferndale is the only historical landmark in California that encompasses a whole town. And the Victorian Inn is right in the middle of it. In fact, when the Danish creators of LegoLand in San Diego County wanted a representative American village to reproduce for their theme park, they chose Ferndale...and the Victorian Inn is reproduced right in the middle of that, too. By "village" we mean a community where all the basics needs of living can be found on the Main Street, such as our local butcher, grocery store, insurance agent, family practice doctors, dentist, hardware store, clothing stores, fine dining establishments, cocktail lounges, newspaper publisher, jewelry store, bakery, coffee shop, etc. You get the picture. Probably what has helped the most to keep this timeless feeling is being located five miles from any major highway out in the Eel River Valley, snuggled up against the Kings Range Mountains. Folks don't accidentally come here...they "want" to be here! The Victorian Inn and Ferndale are also the very best place to have as a base to explore the Humboldt State Redwood Park and the Avenue of the Giants, beginning just fifteen minutes south of us. We are also the starting point of the famous Lost Coast Loop, a wonderful one hundred mile drive which starts and ends at the Victorian Inn, has been touted by Road & Track Magazine as "quite possibly the most scenic drive on the planet". To the north, our guests visit Redwoods National Park, featuring Fern Canyon, Ladybird Johnson Grove and the Roosevelt Elk Herd. In addition to all the natural beauty which surrounds Ferndale, the social aspects of the community are in abundance. We have ten days of thoroughbred horse racing during our County Fair in August, and during the other parts of the year we feature such things as the Kinetic Sculpture Race, The Christmas Tree Lighting (we have the world's tallest living Christmas Tree), the Lighted Tractor Parade, the Redwoods Marathon, the Tour of the Unknown Coast and many, many other local festivals and get-togethers. Bottom line! Don't miss a chance to Visit the Victorian Village of Ferndale and the Victorian Inn.
