Tubac is a town that has as much roots in its past as it does in it's present artist colony metamorphous. With over 90 places to browse, multiple restaurants and Tubac Bed and Breakfasts, the town is for persons who enjoy discovering. The Tubac Presideo ,Arizona's first State Park,dates the founding of the community to 1752 and is the first true settlement in Arizona.Today the walk around village has world class art and sculpture gardens surrounded by large open mountain views to both the west and east.The Tubac Bed and Breakfasts specialize in guiding persons to nearby hiking trails, birding spots and historical tales of the old Southwest.Golf lies within a five minute drive from the village.Nearby is the National Park, Tumacacori Mission which predates the town of Tubac. Recently, the town and the Tubac bed and breakfasts were present at the National Geographic and the states of Arizona and Sonora,Mexico unveiling of the new map guide to this first ever binational project at the Tubac Arts Center.The map celebrates the diversity and richness of culture in Tubac and the surrounding areas.
The village of Tubac is located adjacent to the Santa Cruz river which flows from North to South, a home of over 137 bird species from Vermillion Flycatchers to the Summer Tanager.Much of this wildlife can be viewed from The De Anza Trail, whose trailhead starts at the Tubac Presideo. It was this trail that was taken to colonize the area of San Francisco and at one time a third of the populace counted their birthplace as Tubac.
