Seward Alaska home of the famous Mt. Marathon Race, held on the 4th of July, is a charming small town located at the head of Resurrection Bay, off of the Gulf of Alaska. No experience is needed, they'll train you before you leave on your kayak paddle or adventure. There's even a vendor that offers kayak fishing! Just 120 miles south of Anchorage on a well maintained road, the Seward Highway is also a scenic by-way! If you like to hike, Seward is a great place to base yourself. You can explore the old WWII Ft. McGilvery at Caines Head, accessed from the Caines Head Trail, which begins at the Lowell Point State Recreational Area. North of Seward, the Lost Lake trail is also home to a yearly race and offers spectacular views of Seward from above.
